AARP Wisconsin launched its first Walk with a Doc event at Dineen Park in Milwaukee on Saturday, Aug. 27th. Dr. Chris Ford, an Emergency Medicine Physician with EMS (Emergency Medicine Specialists) kicked off the walk with a brief talk about the benefits of exercise, social connection and nature.

The group then ventured out for a one-mile walk around Dineen Park, which offers outdoor recreation and nature preservation, and came back to talk among each other and grab a bag full of AARP WI goodies and information.

Walk with a Doc was started in 2005 by Dr. David Sabgir, a cardiologist in Columbus, Ohio. Frustrated with his inability to affect behavior change in the clinical setting, Dr. Sabgir invited his patients to go for a walk with him in a local park on a spring Saturday morning. To his surprise, over 100 people showed up, energized and ready to move!

These walks are a safe, fun, and FREE place to get some steps, learn about health, and meet new friends! This is open to all ages and you do not need to be an AARP member to register. The next Walk with a Doc will be on Sept. 24. Here is the link to register for this walk: https://bit.ly/AARPWWAD2
