AARP Wisconsin is in search of amazing people like you to become volunteers. We are working around the state advocating for Wisconsinites on state and federal issues like Social Security, caregiving, and the high price of prescription drugs.

We need volunteers like you to make a difference!

Wisconsin advocacy volunteers strive to effect positive social change through public policy advocacy in the areas of health care and financial security.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
An AARP Advocate promotes AARP’s position on key legislative issues to policy makers and the community through:

  • Establishing consistent and constructive communication with area legislators through letters, phone calls, in-person/virtual visits to area offices and emails;
  • Promoting community awareness through participation in area AARP events and event promotion, such as issue forums, rallies, lobby days, listening sessions, van tours and the like
  • Promoting community awareness through representing AARP at area Fairs, Expos and similar public events;
  • Identifying opportunities for issue-based speaking engagements, partnerships, and participation in local events;
  • Monitoring area media for stories of local interest or impact on the key issues;
  • Identifying area individuals with direct access to top legislative decision makers;
  • Identifying additional area individuals to join and promote our team.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Eligible for AARP membership (50+);
  • Commitment to the AARP position on key legislative issues;
  • Ability to remain non-partisan when doing AARP activities;
  • Passion for making a difference through engagement in the political decision-making process;
  • Comfortable and equipped with email and computer access;
  • Ability to travel in-state may be needed.

TRAINING

An initial general orientation to AARP will be provided, along with the following as needed:

  • Education in the legislative process
  • Issue briefing,
  • Advocacy and the AARP position on key legislative issues
