AARP Tennessee Applauds Senators for Supporting Medicare Access Bill

AARP Tennessee Applauds Senator Alexander and Senator Corker for Supporting Medicare Access Bill

NASHVILLE, TENN. — This week, the U.S. Senate voted on the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA) of 2015 (H.R. 2) that permanently replaces the Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula used to calculate reimbursements to physicians under Medicare.

AARP applauds the momentous bipartisan Senate vote on MACRA to repeal and replace the flawed SGR formula with an improved payment system, which included supportive votes from Tennessee Sens. Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker. AARP has long advocated for a permanent SGR fix to help ensure that doctors are compensated appropriately, allowing Medicare beneficiaries are able to keep seeing their physicians each year.

“AARP Tennessee thanks Senator Alexander and Senator Corker for their ‘Yes’ vote on this important legislation,” said AARP Tennessee State Director Rebecca Kelly. “The MACRA bill will help protect Medicare beneficiaries throughout Tennessee by ensuring that physicians continue to be paid fairly for the services they provide.”

According to AARP Tennessee membership data, more than half of the state’s 640,000 members are Medicare enrollees.
