Ideal candidates are actively engaged in their communities, function effectively both as leaders and as members of a team, and provide the insights/guidance and hands on work to help us grow and better serve our Nebraska membership.

Volunteer State Coordinator

 

The Volunteer State Coordinator works collaboratively with the AARP State Community Outreach Director in maintaining and growing a strong AARP volunteer network throughout the state. This position focuses on designing and delivering training for adult learning styles, recruiting for volunteer opportunities, and assisting with volunteer systems.

Volunteers include but are not limited to those from Advocacy, Regional AARP Networks, Information Center, Executive Council, Chapters, NARSP Units, Driver Safety, Tax Aide, and local Community AARP Networks.

This position is a member of the AARP Nebraska Executive Council, a team of leadership volunteers who, under the guidance of the volunteer State President and the State Director, carry out AARP’s strategic priorities within Nebraska.

Key Responsibilities in partnership with AARP’s State Community Outreach Director:

General Responsibilities
• Understands, supports, reflects the mission of AARP – to enhance quality of life for all as we age, to lead positive social change, and to deliver value to members through information, advocacy and service
• Provides input on strategies for accomplishing goals outlined in the state plan
• Helps to position AARP as an influential power in the state, leading change and influencing the future
• Works in partnership with state office staff and leadership volunteers in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the state plan
• Provides guidance and assistance on a variety of activities such as special projects, research, diversity outreach, community organizing, member engagement, etc.

Position-Specific Responsibilities
• Strategically assesses current and future volunteer needs in order to implement AARP Nebraska’s strategic state plan
• With Volunteer Multicultural Member Engagement Advisor, works to increase diversity of volunteers, including, but not limited to, diversity in age, ethnicity, and race
• Identifies and encourages volunteers and prospective volunteers who have potential for volunteer leadership roles
• Reviews and assists with improving AARP State Office's system for managing the volunteer cycle, including such processes as sending letters of appointment and reappointment, maintaining records, and making reimbursements
• Develops volunteer curriculum and training materials
• Assists state staff, the Community Outreach State Coordinator, and other coordinators with volunteer recruitment, orientation, onboarding, training, and recognition
• Leads or otherwise provides for training or information sessions for volunteers
• Maintains communication with existing volunteers to enhance engagement and retention
• Helps to develop and sustain good working relationships with agencies, organizations, and other community resources that have been identified in collaboration with the State Community Outreach Director.

• Ability to work well with diverse populations
• Ability to inspire others to become involved in AARP activities
• Ability to lead others and work effectively as a team member
• Ability to collaborate with other community organizations around AARP issues
• An understanding of adult learning styles
• Ability to communicate via e-mail and the Internet
• Willingness to travel to occasional meetings
• Eligibility for membership or associate membership in AARP

Term of Service, Length of Service, and Average Monthly Task Time
Two years with option by volunteer and supervisor to renew twice not to exceed (6) six years. The Volunteer State Coordinator will spend an average of 16-20 hours per month on his or her duties. Some months will be more, some less.

Available Resources
AARP will provide volunteer travel accident insurance and comprehensive general liability insurance while performing AARP volunteer responsibilities. Volunteers receive reimbursement for expenses in accordance with AARP policy.

Member Strategy State Coordinator

 

The volunteer Member Strategy State Coordinator works collaboratively with the State Director to increase the participation of members in AARP programs, campaigns, and events. The position focuses on designing activities and offerings that appeal to a diverse membership and promoting them both creatively and inclusively.

This position is a member of the AARP Nebraska Executive Council, a team of leadership volunteers who, under the guidance of the volunteer State President and the State Director, carry out AARP’s strategic priorities within Nebraska.

Key Responsibilities in Partnership with AARP’s State Director:

General Responsibilities
• Understands, supports, reflects the mission of AARP – to enhance quality of life for all as we age, to lead positive social change, and to deliver value to members through information, advocacy and service
• Provides input on strategies for accomplishing goals outlined in the state plan
• Helps to position AARP as an influential power in the state, leading change and influencing the future
• Works in partnership with state office staff and leadership volunteers in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the state plan
• Provides guidance and assistance on a variety of activities such as special projects, research, diversity outreach, community organizing, member engagement, etc.

Position-specific Responsibilities
• Provides guidance for designing programs, campaigns, and events that will build relevance with existing and potential members.
• Utilizes innovative approaches for marketing activities and offerings, including social media
• Analyzes AARP surveys on member interests and needs; utilizes census data and demographic information for determining types of programs and locations
• Develops messaging and activities/events that resonate with people ages 50-64
• Supports AARP programs, campaigns, and events that may be initiated at the state and/or national levels

Multicultural Member Engagement Advisor

 

AARP Nebraska Statement on Diversity
Recognizing diversity as a powerful force for change, innovation and opportunity, AARP Nebraska is committed to the development of a diverse volunteer base and an organization in which every individual’s unique perspectives are recognized, embraced, and utilized.

The volunteer Multicultural Member Engagement Advisor works collaboratively with the State Director to ensure that the interests of multicultural audiences age 50-plus are integrated into everything AARP Nebraska does. The goals are to increase the engagement of multicultural members with AARP; gather feedback and insight from multicultural audiences to design relevant messages and programming; and increase multicultural participation in AARP programs, events, and volunteer opportunities.

The term “multicultural” includes, but is not limited to, race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, and disability.

• Leads, develops, implements, and evaluates special initiatives and strategies to reach, serve, and engage diverse communities in AARP Nebraska’s strategic priority areas.
• Establishes connections with state and community leaders on multicultural issues to collaboratively meet the challenges and opportunities of Nebraska’s increasingly diverse aging population.
