National Volunteer Week is April 6 – 12, 2014, and it has special significance for AARP Alabama. We are fortunate to have skilled and committed volunteers who are making life better in communities around our state every day. We could not do what we do without them!
What exactly do AARP Alabama volunteers do? Here are just a few of the ways our volunteers make Alabama better for all of us:
• They coordinate Tax-Aide and assist low-to-moderate income Alabamians in preparing their taxes every year. Tax-Aide sites are located all across the state every year during tax season.
• They conduct Driver Safety classes in communities around the state, helping us all stay safer on the roads. (And everyone can get a discount on their Alabama car insurance for completing the course.)
• They lend their gardening expertise to community gardens, helping us learn how to grow our own nutritious food, saving money and improving health.
• They work in their faith-based organizations to create respite programs for family caregivers, giving them much-needed community support.
We’ll be highlighting some individual stories during National Volunteer Week, but we have great appreciation for ALL of our volunteers. And we’ll be letting you know about the many ways you can bring your skills and experience to AARP Alabama’s events and programs. In the meantime, if you’d like to join this amazing group of folks and share your unique talents, please contact Anne Hails at AHails@aarp.org.
