AARP Alabama is proud to announce the appointment of Courtney Tarver as our new State President, a volunteer leadership role that helps guide AARP’s work across the state to empower people 50 and older to live their best lives.

Courtney brings a lifetime of service, leadership, and advocacy to this role. As a retired Associate Commissioner and general counsel, he led the Alabama Department of Mental Health’s Division of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Services, overseeing two Medicaid waiver programs that supported thousands of Alabamians. His distinguished career in public service is matched by his legal expertise in constitutional, civil rights, and disability law, and his strategic leadership as a retired Military Intelligence Officer and Army War College selectee.

Now in retirement, Courtney remains deeply engaged in his community. He is an active member of Old Ship AME Zion Church, a dedicated volunteer with MACOA’s Meals on Wheels, and a leader in organizations such as the Boy Scouts of America, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and AARP Alabama.

"Courtney's vision and experience will be instrumental in advancing AARP’s mission to advocate for the health, financial security, and well-being of older Alabamians," said Candi Williams, AARP Alabama State Director.

Please join us in welcoming Courtney Tarver to this important role. We look forward to the impact his leadership will bring to communities throughout the state.
