AARP Releases 2014 Nonpartisan Voters’ Guides Ahead of the Election on November 4
Alabama candidates answered questions on issues important to Alabama voters age 50+ and their families
Montgomery, AL – AARP has released nonpartisan Voters’ Guides for the upcoming election on Tuesday, November 4. Alabama candidates for state-wide and national office have answered AARP’s questions about issues important to voters age 50+, including Social Security, Medicare, and Financial Security.
AARP has a 28-year tradition of providing nonpartisan voter education and voter engagement. “We’re proud to be part of this voter education and engagement work in Alabama,” said Candace Williams, AARP Alabama interim state director. “AARP does not endorse or financially support candidates or parties. We provide Voters’ Guides and encourage all Alabamians to learn about the candidates on the ballot and where they stand on important issues, and to vote for the candidates who best reflect their viewpoints.”
The AARP Voters’ Guides provide an opportunity for candidates to address those issues in their own words. The questions candidates were asked included:
- How would you protect Social Security for today’s seniors and strengthen it for future generations?
- How would you put Medicare on stronger financial ground and protect today’s seniors and future retirees from the burden of rising health costs?
- How would you help Americans save so they can secure their future and live independently as they age?
Alabama voters can view the 2014 Voters’ Guides for their location by going to www.aarp.org/yourvote.
AARP Alabama also sat down with Congressional District 6 candidates, Mark Lester (D) and Gary Palmer (R) to record Video Voters’ Guides for that race. Those videotaped interviews can be found on AARP Alabama’s YouTube Channel at www.youtube.com/user/AARPAla.
