AARP Tax Aide program offers free tax help

Need help preparing your taxes? From Feb. 1 – April 15, AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide program provides free tax preparation help to people with low to moderate incomes. About 175 trained volunteer tax specialists provide service at more than 40 sites throughout Alabama.

This free service can answer most tax questions facing low to moderate income tax payers, especially for people 60 years old and older.

AARP’s Tax Aide is the largest free tax assistance and preparation service in the country.

Last year more than 35,000 volunteer helped 2.6 million taxpayers file their federal, state and local returns.

To find a site near you, use the AARP Site Locator Tool.

AARP is looking for district coordinators who can help coordinate the programs and volunteers in the Birmingham and Dothan areas. Volunteers do not have to be tax preparers. If you’re interested in helping this year, or becoming trained to volunteer for 2015, please contact Anne Hails, ahails@aarp.org.
