Fairhope, AL – AARP Alabama announced today that Arden Brannan Schell of Fairhope will represent AARP on Governor Robert Bentley’s recently formed Alabama Consumer Protection Task Force. The governor created the task force in June in an effort to examine and address predatory lending practices in Alabama.

Ms. Schell has over thirty years of professional experience spanning non-profit organizations, federal government agencies and Congressional committees as a senior attorney and operations director. Most recently, she was Executive Director of Advancement & Planned Giving at George Washington University in Washington, DC. She has also served as Deputy Assistant Attorney General of the United States at the U.S. Department of Justice. Ms. Schell is a graduate of Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the University of Virginia School of Law.

“I’m proud to serve on Governor Bentley’s task force, representing AARP’s long-established advocacy for reforming predatory lending in Alabama,” said Ms. Schell. “I look forward to working with my colleagues on the task force to examine this issue and develop recommendations for relieving the burden of predatory lending practices on Alabama’s families and communities.”

The Alabama Consumer Protection Task Force will begin work immediately, with the goal of delivering their report and recommendations to the governor by January 30, 2017.
