Members of the Central Alabama Mountain Pedalers will celebrate the kickoff of the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge on Saturday, May 12 at Chewacla State Park in Auburn. CAMP members will lead three rides for beginners and intermediate groups beginning immediately following a 1 p.m. press conference, then again at 2 p.m. and at 3 p.m.
Alabama State Parks Director Greg Lein, the Central Alabama Mountain Pedalers president Cody Salmon and 100 Alabama Miles Challenge steering committee member Kathe Briggs will be on hand to talk about the physical activity initiative.
The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge will encourage all Alabamians to walk, run, hike, bike, swim, paddle, ride or roll 100 miles each year and to do so by visiting our state’s wonderful parks, nature preserves and rivers. The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge program partner organizations are the Alabama Trails Commission, the University of Alabama Center for Economic Development, AARP, Lakeshore Foundation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Governor’s Commission on Physical Fitness and Sports, Alabama Beverage Association and the Alabama Obesity Task Force.

Those interested in joining a ride should bring a helmet. A limited number of bikes will be available. Children under 10 should be accompanied by an adult.
