3 Grants Make Communities More Livable

Livable Drawing

AARP Alaska is helping create more livable neighborhoods, awarding $15,349 in grants for projects in three communities.

Newhalen will use the award to fulfill a longtime need for a safe outdoor space by creating a multigenerational park with benches, grills and picnic tables near a basketball court.

In Petersburg, the Clausen Memorial Museum will add a durable path accessible to all people and a covered seating area for visitors, including school groups and residents from a nearby long-term care facility.

The new Gustavus Community Center is using its grant to purchase exercise and sanitization equipment for a weekly fitness class to promote active, healthy lifestyles for older adults in the small community.
