Barking Water.

Director: Sterlin Harjo (Seminole/Creek).

Frankie and Irene, a 50-something, once- upon-a-time couple, have drifted apart but never stopped caring for each other. Stranded in a hospital and in failing health, Frankie asks Irene to spring him from the ward so he can see his daughter and grandchild one final time before he dies. As Irene drives, Frankie rides shotgun and reminisces of better days. Sometimes Frankie and Irene fight -- there were reasons why they parted company – but at the end of the day, they are the love of each other’s lives. It’s a story about love, a story about saying goodbye – and definitely a story not to be missed. (Lorber Films, 2008, 85 min.) www.barking waterfilm.com. Screened at the Indigenous Film & Arts Festival (2009). This program is co-sponsored by AARP. A discussion will follow the film screening.
