New Classes for Metropolitan State University - Denver's LearnOn Program

Are you open to keeping your mind active and alert? Are you ready for a “mind adventure” and a little personal enrichment or career advancement?

Metro State University Denver has a new continuing education program titled “LearnOn.”  Offerings include non-credit, evening classes in “The World of California Wine,” a class on Job Search and Networking Strategies, or even a class in Modern Egypt or Rock Climbing.  MSU has a variety of options that might appeal to you.  Classes will be starting in February, with LearnOn classes spread throughout February through May.  The LearnOn program features  evening, 6 – 8 pm, one – four sessions, two hours per session classes that will appeal to the broader Denver metropolitan community members.

AARP members and their guests will receive 15% off on MSU Denver LearnOn classes.

LearnOn Islam: Origins, Interaction w/West, Extremism, Islamophobia, Religious War? (4) – Ahmad Ghais –  (No maximum)

Explore the many facets of Islam with Dr. Ahmad Ghais, a Muslim, U.S. citizen since 1967, born and raised in Egypt. Is Islam the enemy of America? Explore the evolution of Islam in the U.S. and Islamophobia.

LearnOn  Rock-Climbing

This course will cover the basic self-rescue skills that every climber should know before leaving the ground. This course will be a combination of demonstration and hands-on practice. Rental equipment is provided at no extra cost.

Come explore in a relaxed environment the many wonders of crochet! Learn how to read patterns and to do many of the different stitches. Students will leave with four completed projects as well as extra yarn and lots of ideas!

Learn about the different types of 3D printing machines and materials available. Participate in hands-on projects creating parts files and sending them to different printers. Develop a good foundation to go forward and incorporate 3D printing in personal projects.

Dr. Coble, Director of MSU Denver’s Career Services, will provide an overview of the multiple approaches to conducting a job search. Special attention will be devoted to networking, social media profile management, and personal branding.

AARP members receive 15% off on the class.  Dr. Jackson has worked in many countries outside the U.S. and has designed this class to help registrants think about a potential job or career abroad. She will aid the registrant in finding opportunities, evaluating expectations, and preparing for living and working abroad.

LearnOn  Modern Egypt

Tour the modern world of Egypt with an MSU Denver professor who taught in Egypt during the Arab Spring and, again, recently, in early March.  Begin to understand life in a nation seeking to shake off the effects of modern dictators and long-time colonial masters.
