Starting May 14, AARP Delaware is launching Countdown to 90 Years—a recognition and call to action leading up to the 90th anniversary of Social Security on August 14, 2025. For nine decades, Social Security has been a stable and reliable foundation of retirement security for millions of Americans—and we believe it must remain that way for generations to come.
Leader of AARP Wilmington, Delaware volunteer team, Cheryl Rice-Moore has been a dedicated volunteer of AARP Delaware for the past 3 years. Cheryl is an accounts payable coordinator for the Delaware Community Foundation, and enjoys working with the Bethel AME church to organize outreach events for the community. Cheryl Rice-Moore also services on the advocacy board of the New Castle County Library, where she assists with reading and education. Tax time is here again and so are the IRS impostors! Scammers posing as IRS agents or Treasury Department officials are out there once again, calling to convince taxpayers that they owe back taxes and face immediate arrest. Know this: the IRS will initially contact you through the mail if you owe back taxes. If you receive an unexpected phone call, an email or a text indicating it’s from the IRS, do not engage. Report the scam attempt to the IRS at 800-366-4484 or www.tigta.gov. If you receive an email, forward it to the IRS at phishing@irs.gov, and then delete it.
We need to enhance walking, biking and transportation for Delawareans. That's why AARP supports House Bill 18, an act to amend title 2 of the Delaware code relating to complete community enterprise districts. The Act revises the requirements for the shape of a Complete Community Enterprise Districts (“District”) to maximize the use of transit, walking, and bicycling for those who live and work in the First State. The Bill passed on March 25, and it is ready for Governor Carney's signature.

Holding engineering degrees from Yale University and the University of Texas at Austin, James is the only lobbyist for cycling and walking in the State of Delaware. James Wilson is also a member of the Association of Pedestrians and Bicycle Professionals and the Institute of Transportation Engineers. James Wilson has been a dedicated volunteer of AARP Delaware since 2017.
