As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

Caring for a veteran or service member is meaningful work, but it can also be challenging. Every caregiving journey is unique, and AARP is here to help. We offer free resources and community programs designed to support military families and caregivers. These include guidance on health care and housing, fraud protection, career training, job search assistance, and family caregiving.

More than 60 percent of surveyed Delaware residents over 45 say they are currently providing unpaid care to a family member or friend or have done so in the past, according to a recent AARP poll.

Delaware will hold its state primary on Tuesday, Sept. 10, to nominate candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. House and Senate, and state and local offices.
AARP announced five organizations throughout Delaware that will receive 2024 Community Challenge grants – part of AARP’s largest investment in communities to date with $3.8 million awarded among 343 organizations nationwide. Grantees will implement quick-action projects that help communities become more livable by improving public places; transportation; housing; digital connections; and more, with an emphasis on the needs of adults ages 50 and older.

In the fabric of society, few programs have woven themselves as deeply into the American culture as Social Security. The economic devastation of the Great Depression further exposed society's vulnerabilities, with millions of older Americans in poverty and many more at risk of financial ruin. In response, the Social Security Act was signed into law to better ensure a measure of income security for older Americans in retirement.
AARP Delaware held its annual Lobby Day at Legislative Hall in Dover on May 22. Our dynamic team of volunteers enjoyed grassroots outreach training and the opportunity to talk with elected officials about some top AARP priorities during this Legislative session.
Distracted driving unfortunately continues to be a big issue on our roads. According to the most recent National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA) data from 2021, 13% of reported motor-vehicle crashes were the result of distracted driving.
