Safe, walkable streets make a community more accessible for everyone, especially older adults eager to stay fit and engage with their neighbors.

Thanks to an AARP Community Challenge grant, New Castle County’s Claymont Community Center has refurbished the walking path leading from the center to a larger walking path, enabling residents to enjoy more fitness activities.

The award is one of 129 quick-action grants to help communities make immediate improvements to benefit people of all ages.

The AARP Community Challenge grant program, now in its second year, provided $1.3 million this year, including at least one grant in every state. The 2018 projects are set to be completed this month.
