As 2024 comes to a close, AARP Delaware’s advocacy work hasn’t slowed down. We’ve won in our efforts to advocate for you as 2024 bills are signed. We’ve been supporting local efforts to create affordable housing throughout the summer and fall. Here’s a re-cap and a look ahead:

Report Finds Systemic Gaps in Delaware in Choice of Setting and Provider and Community Integration but also improvements in several areas
Join AARP Delaware for this FREE event at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington
AARP Delaware will host a telephone town hall to help state residents navigate the complexities of wills and estates.
AARP Delaware volunteer Eunice LaFate offers free art classes to help ease the stress of family caregivers. The classes will be held in downtown Wilmington on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of October, 2023. Sessions are limited to 10 people; registration is required.
Jose Matthews, 27, has been an AARP Delaware volunteer for two years and serves as a Volunteer Portal Champion, bingo facilitator, and speaker - presenting on topics impacting the care of older adults. Professionally, Jose has worked in healthcare for nearly a decade and is currently on the Business Development team for the Rockford Center, a specialty Hosptial located in Newark, DE. In service, Jose is also the President of the Red Clay School Board. In his free time, he enjoys gardening, playing with his dog “Rocky” and spending time with his family.
AARP Delaware volunteers know how to tell a story with pictures and words! The dedicated team in Sussex County, Delaware joined Communications Director Kim Wharton for a media tour of the most widely read news outlets in the lower part of the state.
Delaware Workers will have more options than ever to save for the future
AARP Delaware will hold a virtual discussion on Wednesday, Sept. 20, to help veterans and their families learn how to spot fraud and to protect themselves.
AARP Delaware announced 5 organizations throughout the state will receive 2023 Community Challenge grants – part of the largest group of grantees to date with $3.6 million awarded among 310 organizations nationwide. Grantees will implement quick-action projects that help communities become more livable by improving public places; transportation; housing; digital connections; diversity, equity and inclusion; and more, with an emphasis on the needs of adults age 50 and older.
