For 90 years, Social Security has been a promise kept to generations of hardworking Americans. Recently, AARP joined communities across the country to celebrate that legacy, while rallying public support to protect its future.

AARP Georgia hosted four Happy Hours in Atlanta, Augusta, Macon, and Savannah to celebrate Social Security’s 90th Anniversary. The events provided mocktails, music, appetizers, and information to hundreds of attendees.

“For nine decades, Social Security has delivered earned payments that help millions of Georgians stay financially secure,” said Vanessa J. Payne, AARP Georgia’s State Director. “We’re proud to honor that legacy while also calling attention to the importance of strengthening and protecting Social Security for the generations to come.”

The free events were part of a nationwide effort to engage AARP members, elected officials, and local communities in a conversation about the role Social Security has played—and must continue to play—in helping secure the financial futures of Americans of all ages.
