Georgia is now in its 157th General Assembly. Our legislative focus for this year is building relationships with elected officials to advance legislation that helps us keep more of our money in our pockets. We are working to engage lawmakers on these issues:

Advocate for Affordable and Reliable Utilities

• Supporting legislation that recreates an Office of Public Utility Counsel to represent consumers before the Georgia Public Service Commission and other regulatory bodies to advocate on behalf of customers.
• Supporting legislation that protects utility customers from paying the costs to serve data centers.
• Supporting legislation that advances the sunset date for the data center equipment sales and use tax exemption.
• Supporting legislation that repeals the data center equipment sales and use tax exemption.
  

Cryptocurrency Kiosk Fraud Prevention

Reduce fraudulent activity that disproportionately impacts older adults and vulnerable populations.

• AARP is empowering people with the information they need to spot the red flags of crypto kiosk scams, while calling for stronger safeguards and consumer protections at the local, state and federal levels.

Support for Family Caregivers

At AARP, we've made it our mission to ensure that family caregivers have the resources and support they need to best care for their older loved ones. Across Georgia, 2.5M people are caring for older parents, spouses, and other loved ones.

• Advocate for policies that address resource gaps and work towards common-sense solutions.
