The Profile of Positive Aging Awards Gala Luncheon celebrates the accomplishments of active and older individuals who continue to live life to the fullest. Three organizations, Leading Age Georgia, the Georgia Institute of Technology and the Center for Positive Aging, created this event, which is intended to "unveil the beautiful truths about aging."
AARP Georgia volunteer LaVerne Gaither was an honoree at this year's ceremony held at the Atlanta History Center where the event paid tribute to "Elders who have changed our lives, achieved a positive aging lifestyle, and continue to give of their tremendous talent and wisdom across our great state and nation."
A 14-year breast cancer survivor, LaVerne is very active with AARP Georgia and other organizations. She's been with us since 2014, and has done work to support the Advocacy, Fraud Watch Network, Communications and African-American Community Outreach programs.

In addition to LaVerne and more than a dozen other active individuals, Dr. Mel Pender, Jr., most widely known for his outstanding Olympics feats, was recognized and gave remarks.
LaVerne's motto is: Live life to the fullest and have fun by volunteering and helping ot ers!" She certainly does that and we appreciate her commitment to AARP Georgia. h
Congratulations, LaVerne! We're very proud of you.
