AARP Hawai`i Neighbor Talk: Create Salads, Stir-fries With Edible Weeds

At first glance, that overgrown vacant lot and patch of wild plants by the side of the road appear full of weeds. But if you know what to look for, what appear to be common weeds are actually tasty greens that can be used in salads, soups and stir-fries.

Gale Chan and Budit Kanisthakhon are part of a group called EATING IN PUBLIC and will be sharing information about and cooking edible weeds at a free webinar, sponsored by AARP Hawai`i. Their goal is to change the way people think about weeds, many of which are edible, nutritious, and delicious. Some are medicinal, attract pollinators, and replenish depleted soil.

Chan and Kanisthakhorn’s presentation is part of AARP Hawai`i’s Tuesday Neighbor Talks series. The webinars in the series highlight interests and talents of our neighbors through talks and demonstrations led by AARP volunteers and partners in our community. Other webinars will teach participants about creating an acrylic painting, how to take pictures with an iPhone and making your own greeting cards.
