Listen to AARP Hawai`i Webinar on Music and Brain Health

Want to learn how to keep your brain healthy? Turn up the music, sing and dance.

New research from AARP suggests that music gives your brain a workout. Music is also being used as a therapy for Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Find out about the latest research and music as therapy during a free AARP Hawai`i webinar on Wednesday, January 20 at 10 a.m.

Join AARP’s David Parkes, project manager of the Global Council on Brain Health; Nina Guerrero, Clinical Director of Sounding Joy Music Therapy; and KITV news anchor and former caregiver Diane Ako for the “Music and Brain Health” webinar. Parkes will explain how music stimulates the brain and discuss results of the AARP and Global Council on Brain Health study. Guerrero will talk about how music therapy helps Parkinson’s disease patients and caregivers; and Ako will share how she used music to connect with her mother who suffered from dementia.

The webinar is a part of AARP Hawai`i’s Caregiver Wednesday workshops. To register to get a Zoom link go to aarp.org/hi or the AARP Hawai`i Facebook page and click on Upcoming Events. The webinar will also be broadcast on Facebook Live on the AARP Hawai`i Facebook page. To find out and register for other webinars for caregivers go to http://aarp.cvent.com/HICare2021.
