AARP FitLot Introduced at Maple Grove Park in Nampa

AARP and the City of Nampa are celebrating the completion and opening of the new outdoor fitness gym also known as a “FitLot” in Nampa’s Maple Grove Park. The new FitLot features both static and moveable fitness equipment to allow for strength, cardio, balance and flexibility training.

The construction and equipment for the exercise gym was funded through a grant from AARP. Nampa Parks & Recreation Park Superintendent Cody Swander stated, “We are excited AARP chose Nampa for this great amenity. Our City is focused on providing health and wellness opportunities for our citizens. This new facility offers increased opportunity for healthy activity and we anticipate the fitness gym will be a popular amenity for the public to use.”

Lupe Wissel, state director for AARP Idaho initiated the effort to place an AARP fitness gym in Nampa. Ms. Wissel said, “I was so excited when the beautiful location near Lakeview Park in Nampa was chosen as one of AARP’s 53rd FitLot park, which are being built across the nation. Several years ago, we were able to present our findings of a park audit, completed by AARP volunteers, to Nampa city officials. We are pleased to be able to come back and provide this opportunity to the local residents. This outdoor exercise equipment is an outstanding addition to the area and will provide an invaluable health benefit for residents of all ages.”

As part of the grant provided by AARP, Nampa Parks & Recreation will be offering ongoing free group fitness classes that teach participants how to properly use the equipment and get a great workout. Classes will begin in September 2021. For more information on the group fitness classes or additional information, contact Nampa Parks & Recreation at 208-468-5858.
