AARP Goes to Capitol Hill to Champion Protections for Social Security, Strengthen Support for Family Caregivers, and Defend Medicaid and SNAP

Today, hundreds of AARP volunteers and staff from all 50 states are descending on Capitol Hill with one powerful message for lawmakers: protect what matters most to older Americans.

AARP will meet directly with members of Congress to urge action on critical issues, including protecting Social Security, strengthening support for the nation’s 48 million family caregivers, and defending Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

“Every time we come to Capitol Hill, we bring the power of our members with us,” said Nancy LeaMond, AARP Executive Vice President and Chief Advocacy & Engagement Officer. “We’ve recently made real progress—like stopping cuts to Social Security’s phone support that would have created major hurdles for older adults. Today, we’re amplifying the voices of more than 110 million Americans age 50+ who expect action on what matters most: protecting Social Security, supporting family caregivers, and defending critical programs like Medicaid and SNAP.”
