New research shows Idaho ranks 34 th in the total number of identity thefts, fraud and other consumer complaints within the Gem State. That translates to just over 450 complaints per 100,000 residents.

August is AARP's Fraud Fighting Month. To aid the ongoing efforts of AARP's Fraud Watch Network's goal of providing Americans with resources and tools to help them protect their financial security, AARP Research has created the 'Idaho Consumer Fraud Fact Sheet'.
The Consumer Fraud Fact Sheets provide state level data on fraud, identity theft, consumer complaints and gives each state a ranking based on research conducted by the Federal Trade Commission.
Nationally, more than $15 billion was stolen from about 13.1 million victims in 2015, according to the latest Javelin Strategy and Research reports on identity fraud.
It is estimated that older adults are bilked out of about $3 billion every year.
