Town Hall with Idaho Dept. of Finance will Discuss Fraud and Consumer Protection

On September 22 at 10:00am MT, John Yaros, Idaho Department of Finance Securities Bureau Chief, will speak to Idahoans about current trends regarding fraud and identity theft and how to avoid becoming the next victim of a costly scam.

The Idaho Department of Finance’s mission is to protect the financial health of Idahoans through the appropriate oversight of diverse financial institutions, education, innovation and consumer protection.

 Mr. Yaros has been the Securities Bureau Chief since 2023. Prior to that his previous work includes advising fintech companies, conducting investigations for the U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), leading the U.S Treasury Department’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence’s (TFI) Terrorism and Nuclear Proliferation Team, managing cybersecurity audits at the Government Accountability Office (GAO), and working in the securities industry at Morgan Stanley.

 “At a time when scams are increasingly sophisticated, the Idaho Department of Finance is on the front lines of protecting Idahoans from fraud by educating the public and taking decisive action against deceptive practices”, said AARP Idaho state director Karianne Fallow. “This is an interactive call, and we encourage listeners to share their stories, ask questions and learn more about the latest scams taking place right now in Idaho.”

The statewide town hall is scheduled for Monday, September 22 and begins at 10:00am MT.
