AARP has a local presence in Iowa to help people age 50+ to amplify their voice, share resources, and support each other where they live. From practical resources like brain health and fraud prevention presentations to community activities and fun events, AARP Iowa is here to help empower older adults to choose how they live as they age.

AARP Iowa has more than 300 volunteers across the state engaged directly in activities like state and local advocacy, educational programming, and fun activities that build social connections. Some examples of volunteer positions are below:

Advocacy Team

Volunteers partner with staff on efforts related to federal, state and local issues by contacting lawmakers, attending events at the Capitol, sharing personal testimonies, and more.

CARE Team

The Community Action, Resources & Education volunteers in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids help with community events and develop fun educational opportunities for Iowans to learn and engage with AARP issues.

Fraud Watch Team

Volunteers lead programs across the state to educate Iowans on the latest tactics to avoid scams and fraud.

Tax Aide Program

This free public service is the nation's largest volunteer tax preparation service. Roles include counselors who prepare and file returns and administrative and technology coordinators.

Driver Safety Program

Volunteers lead AARP Smart Driver Courses to help keep older Iowans safe and educated on the road.
