AARP Iowa Looking for Volunteers for Iowa SHIIP

We invite you to join AARP in helping Iowans learn more about Medicare benefits by volunteering for the Iowa Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP)*. SHIIP is a free health insurance counseling service that helps Medicare-eligible Iowans with their Medicare and health insurance questions and problems.

SHIIP counselors assist Medicare beneficiaries and their families with questions or problems related to Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, long-term insurance and other issues. SHIIP counselors provide accurate, up-to-date, unbiased information and SHIIP does not promote products, services or programs.

Who: 
People with good listening skills, computer and internet capabilities and an interest in working with and helping others.

Time Commitment: 
Schedules vary based on hours of each local SHIIP site, but counselors typically volunteer about 4-8 hours per month. Counselors also participate in 36 hours of online and in-person initial training and 12 hours of update training per year.

Volunteers are needed in your county.
