Larry Kudej Named AARP Iowa State President

Larry Kudej of Swisher has been named AARP Iowa Volunteer State President and will lead the Association’s Iowa Executive Council, working closely with AARP Iowa State Director Brad Anderson, Iowa staff, and volunteers in their efforts on behalf of AARP’s 328,000 members in Iowa.

“Larry has decades of experience working on AARP’s priority issues, and we are thrilled he will lead the Council in our efforts to enhance the lives of all Iowans through advocacy, education, and engagement,” said AARP Iowa State Director Brad Anderson.

Kudej, who has served on the AARP Iowa Executive Council since 2021, brings a wide range of professional and volunteer experiences in leadership and advocacy to the state president role. Kudej is a retired Federal Attorney, having served with the United States Attorney’s Office in the Northern District of Iowa from 1989 through 2011. He was Civil Chief from 1994 to 2010 and was in private practice in Sioux City, Iowa prior to his role in the U.S. Attorney’s Office. He served on the Iowa Board of Corrections from 2014 to 2023.

He currently volunteers with several organizations including the Iowa State Bar Association, Older Iowans Legislature, Heritage Area Agency on Aging, Johnson County Task Force on Aging, and Cedar Rapids West Rotary.

Kudej will serve a three-year term as State President.
