Meet AARP's Driver Safety State Coordinator for Kansas

AARP Kansas is pleased to celebrate Alan Shirling’s third year as the state's Driver Safety Coordinator for the AARP Driver Safety program. Alan started with the program in 2013 as a driver safety instructor.

As the state coordinator, Alan assists driver safety instructors throughout the state of Kansas in promoting safe driving classes, recruiting volunteers and working with local organizations to host sites for the classes. Alan brings a wealth of experience to the volunteer job. He worked in the insurance field for 45 years in Kansas, which included 25 years of continuing education instruction. He also served as an adjunct professor at Allen County Community College and Johnson County Community College.

Other volunteer activities include serving in Christ Church Anglican with the men’s group, lay reading and youth work.  He has also been a member of Boy Scouts of America, Junior Chamber of Commerce, and numerous insurance and sporting organizations.

Alan is a lifelong Kansan.
