Topeka Hearing for Westar Energy Rate Request

utilities

AARP Kansas is working to ensure that Kansas utility customers pay only what is fair and reasonable.

Westar Energy has filed for yet another rate increase of $31.7 million with the Kansas Corporation Commission. This will be Westar’s 18th rate increase since 2008, totaling almost $470 million dollars.

Thursday  July 11th, from 6-8PM, a second  formal public hearing for Westar’s proposed rate increase is scheduled in Topeka at the KCC office, and we need you to lend your voice to the debate.

As proposed, the average residential customer would see electric bills increase an estimated $7.50 per month. Some customers can expect their rates to jump as much as $15 per month.

These rate increases won’t stop until customers demand it! We need to tell the Kansas Corporation Commission and our legislators to “Stop the Increases”. Please plan to participate in the Kansas Corporation Commission public hearing Thursday evening in Topeka. This is your chance to take a stand and make your voice heard before your rates increase again.
