AARP Louisiana is proud to welcome Monique R. Drake as the newest member of its Executive Council, a select group of volunteers who guide the organization’s strategic direction and serve as key advocates for the 50+ community.
A highly accomplished attorney with more than 40 years of experience, Monique brings a wealth of legal expertise, strategic leadership, and a deep commitment to service.
She serves as the Executive Director for the Committee on Bar Admissions, overseeing the licensing process for individuals seeking to practice law in Louisiana. Her distinguished career includes a tenure at the Louisiana Supreme Court, where she gained invaluable insights into the legal system, and active involvement in shaping policies that protect the public and uphold justice.
A dedicated AARP volunteer for over a decade, Monique first joined as a “Life Reimagined” Facilitator, helping individuals navigate transformative life moments. She now serves as a lead volunteer for AARP’s 50+ Work & Jobs initiative, leveraging her advocacy expertise and certifications as a strategic intervention life coach and mediator to support older adults in career transitions.
Denise Bottcher, state director of AARP Louisiana, expressed her enthusiasm, stating, “We are incredibly fortunate to have Monique join our Executive Council. Her leadership, dedication, and passion for service will be instrumental in advancing AARP’s mission across Louisiana.”
Alfred E. Mason, state president of AARP Louisiana, echoed this sentiment, adding, “Monique’s extensive experience and deep community ties make her an outstanding addition to our team. Her fresh perspectives and unwavering commitment will help us drive meaningful change for older adults in our state.”
Monique holds a law degree from Loyola University College of Law and is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association. She actively serves on several boards and organizations, including the National Conference of Bar Examiners Character and Fitness Committee, Xavier Prep High School Board, Gillis Long Poverty Law Center Board, National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Beacon Light International Cathedral Advisory Board, and the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale.
AARP Louisiana has nearly 450,000 members statewide, and Monique will join a team of 10 individuals dedicated to advocating for issues impacting Louisiana's 50+ community.
