Holiday Alert: How to Prevent Fraud During the Season

Fraud Concept - Magnifying Glass.

AARP Louisiana is hosting a telephone town hall to help people avoid scams, particularly during the holidays.

The call — set for Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 10 a.m. — will discuss the latest fraud schemes and will feature Carmen Million, CEO of the Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana.

According to the FBI, common holiday scams include bogus websites offering bargain prices that are too good to be true, and fake social media campaigns that impersonate major retailers.

Other people are taken in by charity scams, giving holiday contributions to charities that don’t exist. Scam artists bilked Louisianans out of $43.2 million last year, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

Call in to the telephone town hall at 855-962-1521.
