AARP Maryland in collaboration with Art with a Heart, Inc., marked Grandparents Day on September 8, 2023, with a heartwarming event at the Moravia Park Elementary School Judy Center.
Maryland's 54 Judy Centers adopt a two-generational approach, addressing the needs of children, parents, and families while creating opportunities for growth and connection. The event beautifully embodied this spirit of intergenerational support.
Art with a Heart, Inc. curated a specialized art project for the occasion, encouraging grandparents and students to explore creativity together. Each dyad received wooden picture frames to decorate with tissue paper, gems and sequins. Adding to the joy, everyone took home the book "Grandma’s Tiny House" by JaNay Brown-Wood.
AARP's Volunteer State President, Jim Campbell, expressed the occasion's significance: "This Grandparents Day, we are here to honor the important work that the Judy Centers do with children and families. One of our focuses at AARP is intergenerational support, and the Judy Centers play a vital role in supporting grandparents as guardians, caregivers, and mentors to children in the community."
The celebration was a heartfelt recognition of the invaluable contributions of grandparents. AARP Maryland emphasized the Moravia Judy Centers' pivotal role in supporting grandparents as caregivers and mentors as Art with a Heart, Inc. ensured attendees the utmost inclusive and joyous experience.
The collaborative event beautifully demonstrated the power of art to strengthen multigenerational ties and create cherished memories.
