AARP Eye Center
Calling all volunteers! AARP Maryland is recruiting volunteers for AARP Foundation Experience Corps to help K-3 students improve their reading skills. We're seeking individuals aged 50 and older to serve as tutors and mentors.
The stakes are high: children who aren't reading at grade level by the end of third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. And in these times of Covid-19, recovering from learning loss is more crucial than ever. Extensive research shows that Experience Corps improves students' literacy skills and social-emotional learning, and it also offers positive mental and physical health benefits for volunteers.
Don't worry if you've never tutored before - all Experience Corps volunteers receive extensive training to prepare them for their roles. By volunteering with Experience Corps, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of America's most vulnerable children in high-need elementary schools, afterschool programs, and community-based centers.
Opportunities are available in person and online. Learn more at tutor.aarpfoundation.org.
