During Black History Month, AARP recognizes leaders past and present who are giving back to build up their communities. We are proud to sponsor Maryland Public Television's special online screening and discussion of Finding Fellowship, the true story of three racially-segregated congregations that came together during the height of the Civil Rights Era.

Tuesday, February 15 at 7 p.m. ET

In the wake of Dr. King’s assassination, two white and one Black Methodist churches in Montgomery Co., Maryland made the bold choice to merge their congregations – in an historic step toward racial unity, understanding and mutual survival.

Multiracial Hands Making a Circle

Fifty years later, the Fairhaven United Methodist Church celebrates half a century of unified fellowship, even as racial tensions in America are once again at the forefront of current events.

The documentary highlights our need as a community and a culture to preserve stories, memories and lessons of the past so that we may shape our future.

We'll be joined by the film's co-producers Jason Green and Kisha Davis for a discussion after the screening.

AARP believes that when we unite for the greater good, we thrive together. For more stories about remarkable community leaders and their journeys, visit aarp.org/blackcommunity.
