AARP is pleased to welcome the City of Hyattsville as the latest member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities. As the latest community to sign on to the network and complete an intensive two-year study and planning project, Hyattsville’s civic leaders will have access to global resources and information on age-friendly best practices, models of assessment and implementation, and the experiences of towns and cities around the world.
Age-friendly or livable communities have walkable streets, housing and transportation options, access to key services and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities.
The AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities encourages states, cities, towns and counties to prepare for the rapid aging of the U.S. population by paying increased attention to the environmental, economic and social factors that influence the health and well-being of older adults.
Nationwide, 3 states and 352 communities have received the Age-Friendly designation from AARP. Learn more at AARP.org/agefriendly and AARP.org/livable.
