AARP Eye Center
It's hard to believe, but Election Day is right around the corner – and the candidates are hunting for your vote. But as they roll out the same speeches and soundbites about important issues like the future of Social Security, it seems like many have forgotten what's really at stake here: Your money, your future and the futures of your children and grandchildren. If we don't do anything to help fix Social Security, future retirees could lose up to $10,000 a year in benefits.
That's why all around the country, AARP activists met the campaigns at every turn, putting the question to the candidates at every opportunity: "How are you going to make sure Social Security stays strong for me, my children, and my grandchildren?"
Our activists have been everywhere – and the candidates have taken notice. After all, how could they miss all our our AARP-red shirts?
As things heat up right here in Massachusetts, it's our turn to keep the pressure on. Are you ready to take action and do your part? We're looking for volunteers to join us, and welcome people who've never volunteered before as well as volunteers with previous experience.
The first thing to do is to attend an upcoming Take A Stand Volunteer Training event. These events are free, but space is limited, so please see below for online registration or RSVP to AARP Senior Advocacy Specialist Austin Hodge, at ahodge@aarp.org or at 617-305-0510.
Springfield
WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016
TIME: Lunch Session: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
WHERE: Sheraton Springfield Monarch Place, One Monarch Place, Springfield, Massachusetts 01144
RSVP: Register here online or call or email Austin Hodge, AARP advocacy specialist, at ahodge@aarp.org or 617-305-0510.
We'll show how YOU can get involved during this election season – and beyond. We'll provide materials and answer questions.
Why get involved? Because we need people like you to push the candidates to give us straight talk at every campaign event or opportunity. Citizens like you – even people who've never volunteered with a campaign like this before – are getting trained on how to get the attention of the campaigns, ask tough questions, and get the answers that seniors deserve.
The next few weeks will go quickly, and we need to be ready when opportunity strikes. It could mean greeting campaign staffers and supporters at events in your Take A Stand t-shirt, organizing your friends and family to write letters to the editors of local papers, or hosting a debate watch party.
Social Security matters to us all, so feel free to forward this information. All are welcome at the training, regardless of age or AARP membership. Join us in Springfield by RSVPing to Austin Hodge, AARP advocacy specialist, at ahodge@aarp.org or 617-305-0510.
Want Us to Come to You?
Just ask! We're planning many more Take A Stand Volunteer Training events throughout the state as the presidential election approaches. If you'd like to suggest your area or community, please do so by emailing us, and we'll get back to you.
There are just a few months before Americans head to the polls, so every little bit you do right now helps. We hope you'll sign up today.
