This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

The October 1 launch of the Michigan Health Insurance Marketplace cast AARP Michigan in the spotlight in the media and on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) outreach trail.
The Obama administration confirmed to The Washington Post that it is indeed tweaking the way the individual mandate works as to not penalize anyone who purchases coverage during this first open enrollment period.
AARP Michigan strongly opposes Senate Bill 636, which would eliminate minimal consumer protections and cut landline service that is so important to seniors across the state, especially in rural areas.
With key portions of the Affordable Care Act currently being implemented, AARP Michigan will deliver free, fact-based presentations on how the new health care law affects Michigan residents and their families.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – AARP encourages its members and all older Americans with Medicare to take advantage of the Medicare open enrollment period between October 15 th and December 7 th. Given the simultaneous open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act, AARP is making sure people with Medicare know about the options they have during Medicare open enrollment, where to turn for help and helping to clear up confusion.
