Today is Older Michiganians Day! Older adults from across Michigan will gather today at the State Capitol, where AARP continues to advocate for access to quality, affordable health care; financial security; and age-friendly communities in which to live.

Life Reimagined, launched today by AARP, is a first-of-its-kind series of online and offline experiences that guide people through life transitions by helping them discover new possibilities and connect with a community of people pursuing similar passions and goals.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – AARP Foundation today announced it has established the AARP Foundation Oklahoma Tornado Relief Fund to support victims affected by the recent “monster” tornadoes in Oklahoma.

As AARP works to support Medicaid expansion in Michigan, a recent report by the Urban Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation shows that more than 25,000 currently uninsured Michigan veterans and spouses would receive health coverage if Medicaid is expanded under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

WASHINGTON— Today, AARP expressed support for protecting funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) as the Senate prepares to consider reauthorization of the Farm Bill. Joyce Rogers, AARP Senior Vice President, Government Affairs, offered the following statement:

In 2007, a Washington University research study confirmed what volunteers have been consistently saying all along. AARP Experience Corps volunteers become more active and energetic as they participate in the program. From the study: “At the end of the academic year, about two-thirds of the low-activity group was classified as high-activity, as they became more active in non-Experience Corps activities. “

AARP Michigan is seeking nominations for its 2013 Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors Michiganders who are sharing their experience, talent, and skills to enrich the lives of their senior community members.

To tackle the serious issue of hunger faced by millions of older adults – including more than 200,000 in Michigan -- AARP and AARP Foundation today announced that on Saturday, May 11, they are joining the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and the U.S. Postal Service’s 21st annual food drive to help “Stamp Out Hunger.”

AARP will offer Driver Safety courses for $5 during May, which is Older Americans Month.
