AARP Michigan State Director Jacqueline Morrison made this statement today on the substitute for House Bill 4174, the Medicaid expansion legislation:

Today is Older Michiganians Day! Older adults from across Michigan will gather today at the State Capitol, where AARP continues to advocate for access to quality, affordable health care; financial security; and age-friendly communities in which to live.

As AARP works to support Medicaid expansion in Michigan, a recent report by the Urban Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation shows that more than 25,000 currently uninsured Michigan veterans and spouses would receive health coverage if Medicaid is expanded under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Michigan voters overwhelmingly support expanding Medicaid to 133 percent of the federal poverty level, according to a new survey released Friday.

Michigan volunteers came out 134 strong on April 5 and 6 to engage in some networking and learn about chained CPI, social media, investment fraud-fighting, Life Reimagined, the Affordable Care Act and a host of other hot topics.

AARP Michigan is urging the 24 State Senators who voted in favor of setting up a state health insurance exchange last year to vote "yes" in the coming weeks to spend $31 million in federal funding to develop a state-federal exchange.
