This month at Museum After Hours, you’ll have an opportunity to stand at the storytelling crossroads of Mississippi visual art, literature, music, and film. You can celebrate the opening of an exhibition of paintings by the late Mississippi artist Kate Freeman Clark. Author Carolyn J. Brown will discuss her book, “The Artist's Sketch: A Biography of Painter Kate Freeman Clark.”
In the pop-up "Literary Lounge," you can participate in a conversation about the intersections of visual art and the book with Carolyn Brown and artist Ke Francis. Later in the evening, Shane Brown and David Rae Morris, sons of the late authors Larry Brown and Willie Morris, will speak about growing up in the worlds of their fathers' stories. Brown also will read excerpts from unpublished Larry Brown short stories that he recently unearthed.
Chef and Culinary Curator Nick Wallace will prepare a themed dinner and cocktail menu inspired by Mississippi writers. You can cap off the evening with an outdoor screening of “My Dog Skip” in The Art Garden under the Downtown Jackson skies. Spencer Thomas of Young Valley will provide music.
