More than 18,000 Mississippians reported fraud or identity theft to the Federal Trade Commission in 2015, and scammers are using new technologies to exploit more victims. That’s why AARP Mississippi is encouraging community groups across the state to schedule a free AARP Fraud Watch Network presentation.

At each event, a trained volunteer presents information participants can use to protect themselves and their families from fraud. The network provides real-time alerts about current scams, tips on how to spot fraud and the inside scoop on how con artists think. A scam-tracking map shows which schemes are emerging close to home.

To schedule a presentation or to become a volunteer presenter, call 866-554-5382 toll-free or email msaarp@aarp.org. To test drive the tools, go to fraudwatchnetwork.org.
