Meet Up and Help Make DeSoto More Livable

Livable Communities Logo

DeSoto County, just south of Memphis, Tenn., is one of the fastest-growing counties in Mississippi and is seeing a surge in its 65-plus population.

AARP Mississippi is conducting community conversations in Hernando, the county seat, on the fourth Tuesday of each month to listen to residents’ ideas on how to make the community more livable at any age. The talks focus on features such as outdoor spaces and buildings, transportation, housing, social participation, respect and social inclusion, civic participation and employment, and communication and information.

The population of DeSoto County exceeded 173,000 in 2015, a 7.5 percent increase since 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That includes an uptick in older residents.

To participate in the community conversations, call toll-free 866-554-5382 for locations and times.
