AARP Eye Center
Mississippi has a poor health record, placing at or near the bottom of state rankings on obesity, cancer, diabetes and overall health. But the state excels in telehealth, and the Center for Telehealth at the University of Mississippi Medical Center ranks among the best in the nation.
AARP wants to expand telehealth to allow more people in rural or medically underserved areas to be diagnosed and treated through audio-video technology. AARP invites volunteers to a Day at the Capitol on Feb. 9 to talk with legislators about telehealth and other matters important to Mississippians 50 and older. Volunteers will receive training beforehand so they can speak knowledgeably when visiting lawmakers at this event and throughout the legislative session.
