Protecting Montanans from fraud & identity theft has long been an AARP priority.
In 2025 AARP Montana will hold shredding events in communities around the state. Stay tuned to this page as well as our social media pages to find out when and where the shredding events will be held.
Keep Your Confidential Documents out of the Hands of Cons
Gather your outdated bank statements, canceled checks, credit card junk mail and receipts with identifying information and bring them to the local UPS store. The documents will be shredded for you while you watch.
“Because most identity thieves obtain information through paper-based sources, securely disposing of sensitive documents is a good way to keep your personal information out of the hands of identity thieves,” said Nancy Andersen, AARP Montana outreach director.
Identity theft tops the list of types of fraud 50-plus Montanans worry about, followed by credit card theft and Internet fraud.
In 2024, AARP Montana partnered with UPS stores to offer the following shredding events.

"These shredding events were great and it was wonderful to see so many people turn out for them," said Andersen. "The events were free and open to everyone regardless of age or AARP membership status. Montanans who joined us are better protected from identify thieves as a result."
