Some of the most powerful stories come from those who have served in the U.S. armed forces. Across the state, more than 94,000 veterans and another 8,900 active, reserve and civilian military members live in Montana, according to the Census Bureau. That is a huge population of local heroes worth honoring and celebrating!

Lee Montana Newspapers created the Stories of Honor series to feature profiles of veterans and military members from across the state to inform readers about the service and bravery of the heroes who have served, or are currently serving, our country.

AARP Montana is pleased to sponsor the Stories of Honor newspaper series in partnership with the Helena Independent Record, the Montana Standard, The Billings Gazette and The Missoulian. From Memorial Day through Veterans Day, different stories will be featured.

We are proud of the service men and women in our communities across Montana and look forward to featuring their stories throughout the year with this partnership with Lee Newspapers.

Recognize the service, bravery and sacrifice of the many heroes who served our country by helping to tell their story.

Help us salute our heroes! Nominate a Veteran or active service member today!

Your hero's story could be published in the newspaper -- both in print and online. Nominations will be open through October 18.
