AARP Launches Voter Engagement Campaign

Goal is to turn out 50-plus voters for midterm elections

AARP has launched “Be the Difference. Vote,” a multifaceted campaign designed to maximize the influence of America’s  50-plus voters in this year’s midterm elections.

The campaign seeks to get the largest possible turnout of voters age 50-plus to the polls during the ongoing primaries and in the November general election. It will also put front and center issues like  MedicareSocial Security, financial security and  caregiving—topics of particular interest to older voters.

The campaign website will serve as a one-stop portal for voters to get information about the election, including issue briefings, polling results and voter guides. As the campaign unfolds in the coming months, expect to see AARP:

  • Conducting polls of 50-plus voters across the country and in battleground states. The surveys, done with campaign partner Politico, will track sentiment on key issues.
  • Delivering information on issues and election news, and alerting AARP members to local events, tele-town halls and candidate forums.
  • Urging candidates to address issues of vital importance to older Americans in their campaign speeches, literature and advertising messages, based on the input received from our tracking polls and member communications.
  • Applying advanced data analytics to target turnout of 50-plus voters in major races across the county. The campaign also will reach out to African American and Latino voters, especially in races where they could compose a deciding voting bloc.
