AARP Nebraska is shining a light on the urgent need to stop gift card payment scams in our state. Nebraska Legislature Bill 955 has the potential to do exactly that so long as it gains overwhelming support at the January 30 hearing from State Senators comprising the Banking, Commerce, and Insurance Legislative Committee.
AARP Nebraska is bringing attention to Nebraska Legislature Bill 937 to Adopt the Caregiver Tax Credit Act. Introduced by State Senator Eliot Bostar, LB937 would help ensure family members who take care of their relatives with disabilities—incurring eligible expenditures for their care and support—are paid for their critical caregiving work through a nonrefundable tax credit.
The commitment by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and the City of Lincoln will establish a structured, community-driven process for examining ways the city can become more age-friendly. Lincoln residents are invited to complete a survey to assist in this effort.
In honor of National Family Caregiver Month, AARP Nebraska presented Senator Eliot Bostar with the 2023 “Champion for Prescription Drug Affordability” Award and Senator Tom Brewer with the 2023 “Champion for Family Caregivers” Award. These awards represent a select, bi-partisan group of elected officials across the country who have fought in various ways to lower the price of prescription drugs or to help family caregivers have the tools they need to care for their loved ones.
