AARP to Conduct Keynote, Work Session at 2016 NM Conference on Aging

Join AARP New Mexico at the 2016 28 th New Mexico Conference on Aging for a fun and informative two days of work sessions, keynote speakers and entertainment, ranging on topics from fitness, preparing for retirement, stress management, and helping to shape future policies for people as they age.

The Conference kicks off Tuesday, August 23, with a special keynote by Dr. Bill Thomas , an AARP visiting scholar and innovative geriatrician, who will discuss how we view aging and how some of our preconceptions might not be accurate. A work session, by Thomas will follow at 11 a.m. (See related story below.)

Later that afternoon, at 1:30 p.m., AARP New Mexico will also conduct a work session on “ Are We Really Ready for Retirement?” a look at how access to an employer based retirement plan is critical for building financial security. A panel will discuss policy options that will help increase retirement income as well as allow individuals to build their own economic security.  The panel will also discuss Social Security and why candidates in the upcoming election must “Take a Stand” on updating the program for the future.

The conference continues Wednesday, Aug. 24 rd, with many more work sessions and events.  It is being held at the Isleta Hotel and Casino on the Isleta Pueblo, just south of Albuquerque.
